The Post-Acrylic Nail Saviour? | Leighton Denny 'Rock Solid' Nail Treatment

Something I don't think I've ever mentioned on here is my love for painting my nails. I pretty much always have them painted and of course they have to match the season we're in (ps I'm super excited for dark nails and glitters for autumn). A few months ago, I decided to get acrylics. This seemed like an amazing idea at the time, and I absolutely loved them. Since at my job I need to lift boxes of books and heavy stacks of newspapers, they probably weren't the most practical for that. After about 2 months of getting infills, I decided to take them off myself at home. This was possibly the worst idea I've ever had. Yes I got my nails off and it felt amazing to have my own, short nails back - but my nails were also so damaged from the acrylic, that they'd break instantly. I've always had strong nails that I could grow quite long, and after the acrylic, my nails went soft and would bend easily.

Alex Silver PR got in contact with me to let me know about Leighton Dennys' new halloween range and sent a couple over for me to try. Within those was the 'Rock Solid One Coat Strengthening Treatment'.

I have to be honest - I've never been one to use treatments on my nails. I just let them grow, and break off naturally. After the trauma my nails must've had from all the acrylic, I thought I'd give it a try. The first time I wore it, I applied it to clean nails and wore it as a clear polish, and the second, I wore it under a colour polish.

This polish has restored the strength in my nails again after only 2 weeks of use. It has honestly worked amazingly for me!

Leighton Denny 'Rock Solid' Nail treatment retails for £12 and can be bought here!

Best Foundations For Summer

I have to be honest, makeup becomes one of my least favourite tasks once Summer comes around. Spending 30 minutes putting makeup on that will just end up leaving you greasy and shiny in a couple of hours? No thanks... When I do opt to put makeup on, I have to make sure that I'm protecting my skin from the sun. Here are my 3 favourite SPF foundations for the summer!

1. L'Oreal True Match Foundation - This is the heaviest coverage out of the 3, so I usually only reach for this on special occasions that require more makeup. This one contains SPF 17.

2. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation - This one is by far my favourite out of the 3. I have used this foundation, on and off for about 5 years now. I'm always trying new ones, but I always end up coming back to this one after a couple of weeks. This one is a medium coverage, with an SPF 20, making it my perfect day-to-day wear foundation!

3. Clarins HydraQuench Tinted Moisturiser - This is my 'it's too hot let's just slap some makeup on' foundation. I am currently using a tester, but when I use this, I use very little product because I am just aiming to even out my skin tone, not cover or conceal. This one has SPF 15 in, making it perfect for the days you want to protect your skin, but still look fresh faced!

The Prettiest Primark Find!

I am a self confessed Primark addict. They have so many, pretty - yet affordable items that always fit the newest trends.

I recently picked up this little beauty for £25. It is the perfect light jacket for Summer! It is in a beautiful blue-grey shade, made from an incredibly soft faux suede material and finished with silver hardware. I've been adding this jacket to plain outfits that need jazzing up slightly!

My favourite way to wear this, is over an all black outfit -My black ripped jeans, a black slouchy t-shirt and white plimsolls. It adds a pop of colour and makes the outfit a little more fun! I've also recently been adding my new sunnies from urban outfitters to make it look a bit more styled and put together!

I know this post is very short - but I just wanted to show my best find from Primark in a while!

My Dream Bedroom for Less

I'm always wanting to change the decor of my room. Having a clean and pretty bedroom is one of the main factors in keeping me motivated! I have collaborated with Blind Hut to create this blog post on my take on Summer interior trends to create my dream bedroom!

Block Colours

As you can tell, I am a fan of mixing patterns. I tend to mix pretty pink patterns with bold black and white prints. I added the pink 'plate' style pattern with a variation of black and white cushions, such as  the geometric one from Ikea (middle back), the 'R' initial cushion (gift) and the stitched chevron cushion (Primark). To break up these patterns, I added 2 dusty pink velour square cushions from Primark, with a rose gold foiled square cushion to add some glam!

Product Displays

I always have my perfumes all lined up and on show. At the minute, I have them next to my new Ion light up turntable which I snagged in the HMV sale for £50 a few weeks back! I'm in love with it! I always like to keep luxury product carrier bags, such as this one from Harvey Nicholls. Not only do they look pretty, but they can also be a discreet way to store boring items. For example, this one holds paracetamol and ibuprofen in case I feel ill during the night! Plus, they're free when you buy makeup and I'm sure everyone has some lying around the house! If you don't - it's another excuse to buy that lipstick you've been wanting...

Ok, so I'm completely aware that you can see the washing on the line outside the window, but please ignore it! I always have items on my windowsill because I think it looks so pretty. I currently have some of my book collection which I have yet to read, with an hourglass I bought in the BHS sale for £3 (similar here) with a Clementine and Honey candle from Primark, and one of the candles from a Next set I received as a gift. I also have my cacti from Ikea, the Daisy Picking and Seaside Stroll Zoella Lifestyle candles and a hanging plant from Wilkinsons!

I'm absolutely in love with my room at the minute and incredibly happy that I managed to save and get most of my items from Primark Home!

Benefit Ka-Brow Review

Ever since the new Benefit brow products were released last year, I've wanted to try some of them. I finally got around to trying the 'Ka-Brow'.

I've been using this for about a month now, and I'm absolutely in love with it. It comes with an angled brush which makes it incredibly easy to apply. It isn't waxy, so it doesn't drag across the brows or become very patchy or hard to build. With its' cream formula, it becomes incredibly easy to build from a natural to bold.

One thing I have noticed is that a little product goes a long way. You barely need to put any pressure on the product with the brush to pick up enough for a strong application. Once you apply, you only have to dip the brush at least once or twice to complete the rest of the brow. With its 24 hour wear, it doesn't smudge or transfer, which for me, being I draw on a new brow shape with this product. I want to make sure the shape I draw on will not smudge off throughout the day.

I have this product in shade no. 5, which is a dark brown shade. They have a really good choice of colours, taking into account all the different undertones. There are more hair colours than 'Light' and 'Dark', and Benefit have really hit the nail on the head to make sure they provide colours for everyone!

I love this product, and hope to test some more out in the future!

Summer Holidays

I'm collaborating with the people over at 'The Car People' with their 'Thanks Dad' campaign in honour of Fathers Day!

Every year since I was about 4 - me, my mam and my dad have loaded all our stuff in the car and driven to a cottage somewhere for a week in a cottage. Now that I'm working, we won't be able to do it this summer, which makes me incredibly sad. I always loved the drive down to our holidays, and I've compiled a little list of why I loved it and some of my favourite memories!

1. Collectively laughing to some sort of radio show... John Bishops Alphabet Soup podcast in particular! However, more recently we've began to see the humour in the plot twists within BBC Radio 6's choices. Could be listening to Kanye West one second, and a classical concerto the next!

2. I was always the only one in the car who enjoyed travelling in the rain. I don't know why I loved it so much - to be honest I still love it now! I think it made me feel extra cosy with my excessive amount of blankets and cushions I'd bring on holiday with me. Always packing too much! Nothing's changed then...

3. McDonalds breakfasts were always a must when leaving for our holiday. About an hour in, we'd stop off at the McDonalds drive through as a treat to mark the beginning of our summer hols!

4. Before we had the joy of Sat Navs, we always had to follow a road map and plan out our route on paper first. It was always quite exciting as a young child going down all the country roads and little villages whilst on the way to the cottage.

5. I Spy... Need I say more? This was like the most fun game as a 5 year old. Gets a bit repetitive once you play it every year for 5 years whilst on the motorway though...

I loved summer holidays as a kid so much. I'm absolutely gutted we can't have one this year! This will be the first year in 16 years that we haven't been away for a few nights as a family. I don't want to get old! Hopefully we will be able to get something booked in over a weekend if I can get the time off work, but even so, it won't be the same as packing up and calling a little countryside cottage home for the week!

What are your favourite car journey memories?

Let There Be Crumbs x Andrew Blas Collaboration Launch

Last Thursday, I attended the launch of the new 'Proper Patisserie' collaboration at the Let There Be Crumbs tea room in Roker, Sunderland. The tearoom have joined forces with an award winning pâtissier, Andrew Blas.

Kylie Jenner Lip Kits | First Impressions

I'm pretty sure you've heard of the ever-so-hyped (and criticised) Lip Kits from Kylie Cosmetics. I've wanted to get my hands on some ever since they were released, but with all the controversy around missing orders and messed up lip gloss wands, I avoided them at all costs. Not to mention how hard they were to get a hold of when first released! On Cinco De Mayo - Kylie introduced a one day only buy one get one free offer. By some sort of miracle, the website wasn't totally sold out when I went to have a browse and I ordered 2 of her famous lip kits!

I ordered Candy K and Kristen, since they are the colours I usually lean towards on a day to day basis.

(Above) This shade is Candy K, which I have to say is my favourite out of the two. It is a dusty pink/brown toned shade, which is pretty much the colour of all the lipsticks I reach for the most. I love the liner, because it is very soft and creamy. It helps fill in some of the cracks on my lips in order for the matte lipstick to not cling or go patchy on the chapped areas. One feature that I find a bit difficult is the consistency of the product when wet. It can be a little bit difficult to apply, but I would suggest that 'less is more' in regards to how much product is on the applicator. If you apply to much, it can, in effect , 'pool' up, and once dried will not look even. Scrape the applicator on the side of the tube to make sure you don't have too much product and can be applied a lot neater.

(Above) This shade is Kristen. Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed about the shade of this one. It looked a lot more of a brighter pink on the website, and on the box. This is a lot darker than expected. I couldn't wear this with a day-to-day makeup look, so this one is being used strictly to go along with heavier eyeshadow looks. I'm most likely going to be wearing this for a wedding in a few weeks time, so I'll be sure to share some pictures over on my instagram @_staticnova_!

Have you tried any of the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits? What did you think of them?

Sunderland Fashion Weekend 2017

I was very lucky to receive an invite for the Sunderland Fashion weekend for a 2nd year! It was really amazing to be able to attend again, since last year I had only just started blogging and was my first event I'd ever attended. This years looks did not disappoint! Here are some of my favourites from the night!

I love these because every outfit is surely better with holographic, fluffy heels! These were Primark! As was that amazing floral maxi skirt you can see in the background. Need!

All of these pieces are from Topshop! How amazing are those red trousers?!

I'm absolutely in love with this floral print from Warehouse. These are the perfect summer wedding guest outfits!

After the show, we were invited to Debenhams for their beauty hall event, so naturally, I couldn't stop myself from picking up something from Benefit! The amazing people over at Sorted PR provided every guest with a £10 Bridges gift card, which I naturally spent within 10 minutes on make-up... of course!

I had an amazing night, along with my lovely blogger friends Chloe and Amy and hope I get the pleasure of attending next year!

Makeup Revolution HD Pro Powder Contour

I have to say, I'm not the best at contour. I find it way too hard to find the perfect shades that blend well and are perfect for fair skin. I really don't want it to look like I have 2 noticeable stripes down each side of my face. I decided to give this one from Makeup Revolution a try since every other product from them I've loved. I wasn't disappointed!

The palette has 8 different shades in, ranging from darker contour shades, lighter highlighting shades and a pearlescent shimmery highlighter for the cheek bones. It really is an all in one palette - can't really go wrong for £10!

Starting with the highlighting shades, there are 4 matte light powders in the palette. These come in really handy for setting concealer since they're not translucent. It adds a little more coverage, which for me is always a bonus. I tend to use the more pink undertoned powders since they're a closer match to my foundation colour. The other yellow toned powders are rarely used - only sometimes when I use my NARS Sheer Glow foundation in 'Siberia'. In this palette there is also one, super pretty shimmer highlighting shade. This is a pearlescent, white shade which makes it perfect for a natural glow. This shade is a lot more toned down on shimmer than the ones they sell in their famous Golden Sugar palettes, but it is just as effective. I tend to reach for this one on the days I go for a lighter makeup application to add a slight glow to complete the look.

As for the darker contour shades, they run a lot darker than what you would typically expect for a bronzing palette aimed at fair skin. This is definitely not a bad thing. This means I can build up my contour with a few different shades depending on the event I'm putting makeup on for. For example, for day to day wear, I stick to the lightest bronzing shade to give the most natural effect. If I feel like I want to go a little bit heavier with the application, I will build up with the other 2 darker shades. One thing to definitely note with these is to use a very light hand and build up, rather than swirling your brush in the pan uncontrollably. It'll end up being waaaaay too hard to blend since the shades are all so highly pigmented. You'll lose the natural look you typically aim for.

So, once again, Revolution have created an amazing beauty product at an affordable price! Win win situation really! These are currently available in fair (as featured in this post) and light medium.

If you've tried them, what's your favourite Makeup Revolution product?

Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Highlighter

If you've read my blog for a while - or read some of my older posts - you probably noticed that I am a massive Naked Palette fan. When I was at the Ellefluence Urban Decay event last November, (yes, last November... I was meant to post this review aaaages ago!) I picked up one of the Naked Illuminated Highlighters in the shade 'Aura'.

This product retails for £24, which isn't too bad for a high end product such as this. It has a high quality packaging. It's actually covered in a soft fabric, which makes it look quite luxurious. (also a reason why this stays out on my dressing table because it looks so pretty) But does this compare to the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish? Yes and no... Whilst this UD highlighter is both shimmery and glittery in the pan, and looks incredibly pretty in the packaging, when swatched it feels quite rough and chalky. Not like the MAC or Revolution highlighters which have a silky, almost creamy feeling texture to them. Whilst the shade is incredibly pretty in the pan - as I said, both shimmery and glittery - when you swatch, it is definitely more glittery than shimmery. This is great, in my opinion for a night out. Possibly if you're wearing heavier makeup for an event, that glittery look may be more fitting, however for day-to-day wear, I don't think this product gives you that 'natural healthy glow' you usually look for in highlighters.

Another thing that sets it aside from the MAC highlighter is the fact it comes with a brush to apply the product. This may be part of the reason the UD product is a few pounds more expensive than the MAC one. To be honest, the brush doesn't really do all that much for me. I love using the Artis brush dupes by Neverland Beauty to apply highlighter because the bristles are really dense. This helps get the maximum capacity of product from the pan to your face. Not to mention highlighter is so much more intense when applied with a more dense brush. With this brush, I feel like the product just gets lost in the bristles, and a lot of the pigments may fall off and disperse before it actually hits your face.

As well as this, the product lacks the pigment of other highlighters I have tried. Rather than a blinding glow you get from the MAC and Revolution products, it is more of a toned down slight shimmer with chunkier glitter pigments in. Again, perfect for a night out - not so much for everyday wear.

So overall, is it worth the £24 price tag? In short - no, I don't think so. As much as I love Urban Decay for their eye products, and can 100% justify £40 for one of their palettes because you know their eyeshadows are very hyped. However, there are so many more highlighters on the market that are both cheaper and work much better than these. For example, the Revolution Golden Sugar Palettes which retail for £6.

Have you tried these Naked Illuminated products before? What did you think of them?

I Started A Youtube Channel!

So... yeah... this happened!

I've honestly wanted to start a youtube channel for years, but never had built up enough courage or confidence to do it.

I've posted a couple of videos on old channels before, but I am going to try and keep this channel up and running with regular uploads.

I'm not speaking in my videos for now, taking one step at a time. Also, my video was filmed on my phone so it's not perfect. Hopefully soon I'll have a proper camera and tripod for it!

You can check out my first video here -

Stagecoach #BloggersOnTheBus Event!

A few weeks ago, I attended the #bloggersonthebusevent organised by Bethanie and Stagecoach to mark the launch of their mobile app. The app allows you to track buses and order online day tickets to be used across the North East. The event was at Jalou in Newcastle, and we got to design our own phone cases!

As I mentioned, the event was to mark the launch of Stagecoach's new ticket app, which allows you to buy local day tickets straight from your phone. After the event, I went and downloaded it to test if for myself and it's turned into a life saver! I could be named the queen of being unorganised so you can probably understand that every morning for work I'm scrapping around all my handbags trying to find change for the bus. This makes it so easy since I can just tap a couple of buttons and I have a ticket that I can use the whole day!

Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of our goody bags, but everyone received one. We all got nail polishes (mine in a pretty barbie pink. I'm all about it) some sweets, a CD and possibly the smartest thing - a portable phone charger, which I have needed for months!

We were given free drinks all night, and it was an amazing event to socialise at! If you're in the north east and you haven't already - give the stagecoach app a go! You can download the app here!

Stila 'Stay All Day' Matte Lipsticks

I'd never really tried Still products until my bestie got me one of these lipsticks for Christmas last year. Oh my my whole perspective on matte lip products has been changed!

The colours I have are 'Bordeaux', which is a dark red wine colour, and 'Mon Ami', which is a grey toned pink. They're both amazingly pigmented and neither are drying at all! As I've seen with a few lipsticks recently, they don't have a formula that dries out as fast. They stay more satin-like on your lips meaning you don't have to worry about flakiness just from talking which many liquid lipsticks do. They're not patchy, and top ups apply smoothly and seamlessly, and does not disrupt the previous product underneath.

They're extremely long wearing, as the 'Stay All Day' title may suggest. I wore 'Mon Ami' at a blog event a couple of weeks and I only reapplied once throughout the night. Probably didn't even need it I just like to make sure everything is even!

'Mon Ami' is unlike any colour I have. Yes its a pink toned nude which is basically the majority of my lipstick collection, but never with the grey tone as well. Because of the grey undertones, it goes really well with silver, grey and taupe eyeshadows, with a silver, pearlescent highlighter.

'Bordeaux' is the perfect red wine shade and I wore it a lot over the Christmas period. In fact, I don't see the point of assigning colour rules to certain seasons and I'm going to be wearing this all the way through Spring and Summer.

These lipsticks retail at £15, and can be bought in any stores with a Stila counter, however, I ordered 'Mon Ami' from Beauty Bay!

Have you tried these lipsticks before? What did you think of them?

Sweet Treats from Cake Toppers!

Here's me being super super behind on all my work again!

Anyway, in November, Sam from Cake Toppers contacted me asking if I would like to try some of their cupcakes. Obviously, me with the biggest sweet tooth in the world jumped at the chance!

Cake Toppers specialise in printing custom cake toppers to suit any occasion! They and make the perfect personal gift, or, perfect for any event! Not to mention the cake is amazing... better than what you'd find in the shops!

As you can see, I chose for the personalisation to be some of my favourite pictures with my friends from my time at sixth form, but I think these can make an amazing Mothers Day present! Last year, as you might have seen on my blog, I put together a mothers day afternoon tea. These would've been the perfect addition! They also offer full size occasion cakes personalised with whatever picture you like!

I'd highly recommend this as a gift, or even just as a treat to yourself! In fact, putting this post together has reminded me how good they were... I might just have to order myself some more!

An Update!

I know, I know... Long time no post. (I'll try and be better ahah!)

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you may have seen it was my birthday a few weeks back! I entered my last year of being a teen and honestly it's kind of scary. You'd think I'd have my shit together by now right? Nah - you know how most people have that one drawer in their room that is the designated 'junk drawer'? Every drawer in my room is a junk drawer, plus the stuff stacked up high in my wardrobe. Left 6th form in June with the intention of being employed on an apprenticeship by September... alas, I am still searching for the perfect job!

Let me get off on a tangent here, but am I the only one who has noticed how much more grumpy everyone is in January? Like yeah I get January is a long month because of the extended time until payday (sigh), but sometimes it's not even a normal amount of grump... Let me explain. It's like the excitement of the festive period is over and the contrast between 'I'm basically the epitome of Christmas! Lets cover my whole house in lights and cover every item of furniture in metres of tinsel!' and 'What a waste of money that was. All I got was socks' is more defined than ever. My example of this is one of my colleagues greeted someone as they entered the shop I work in the other day. A simple friendly 'Hi, you alright?' is all it was. To which the person replied 'I have flu. I need to drink lots of fluids', and just wandered off. Ok then. Take that as a no... Really though, like I get it, everyone is skint after Christmas, including me, but don't take it out on other people!

Back to the job hunting - I've been searching for an apprenticeships for months now. About a year actually, with no luck. Hopefully though, there is something exciting in the works! But I'll tell you about that if it comes to anything!

Other than that, life has been particularly mundane! Just working most days! I have some really exciting events coming up though, like #nebloggersattheraces which I'm so excited for! Be sure to keep an eye out for lots and lots of pictures over on my instagram @staticnova_
